I've had an insatiable craving for Mexican food lately, and La Condesa did not disappoint. It just opened this past Friday, so they're still working out a few things - the cashier rang up my order wrong at first, the chips were slightly greasier than they should have been, and they don't have 16oz of horchata, but the food was really good.
Any two tacos with rice & beans is $7.59. The salsa bar contains about ten varieties, ranging from their awesome strawberry salsa to a couple which are much spicier. I ordered the dogfish shark and cochinita pibil taco ($2.99, a la carte) with rice & beans and a horchata ($3.99). It's been said that there are no good fish tacos in Phoenix, but I beg to differ with these shark tacos - nicely fried, not greasy at all, and really tasty; you would be hard-pressed to complain about them after adding a little shredded cabbage, a squeeze of lime and one of their salsas. The cochinita was very tender, flavorful, and equally good; I enjoyed them both. I liked the texture and flavor of the beans on the side, although I thought the rice was under-seasoned. The homemade horchata was delicious, flavored with cinnamon and bits of pecan.
I will definitely be back to La Condesa soon. They have a large menu, and most of it sounded excellent. Great addition to Central Phoenix.
