I took two of my teenagers to Al's on Taylor for lunch Saturday. It was a big hit. In looking for dessert on the way home we stopped at a Greektown bakery called Pan Hellenic. It's quite a good place. They have a round flatish bread with sesame that's great and the desserts were excellent.
Now to the point. While we were there an elderly baker brought out a plate full of fried balls of dough dunked in honey. He said, in a way that could not be disputed, that these were the best, and offered a taste. They were basically warm, fresh, honey donuts. And they were the best. The woman who was serving us mentioned the Greek name, but I quickly forgot it. While I'm sure part of why they were so good was the freshness, I'll like to know how to ask for these in the future. Anyone know the name?
