Quest for Best Ramen House in Orange County

Diamond Dog | Jan 3, 200409:46 PM

After trying many ramen houses, we found TAKARAYA on Baker in Costa Mesa to be the best. This was the one next to Wahoos fish tacos. It has since closed down.

We recently tried HAKATA-RAMEN SHIN-SEN-GUMI in Fountain Valley on Brookhurst. It was fun and the loud chefs yelling various thing all the time was amusing. I found it kind of expensive. Not that I am not willing to shell out money for a good meal. But I just dont feel like noodles should cost that much. I also felt like they tried too hard to push you to order other items to bump up your check. For 2 people, 2 beers, ramen with additions, and some appetizers we spent $55.00. For RAMEN!!!!!

We have tried the places in both Mitsuwa and Mirakai markets which are marginal at best.

Mitae Ramen in Costa Mesa has the most adorable old lady who owns and cooks there. But I found it also marginal.

We tried the place on Baker & Bear. I cant remember the name. Next to a liquor store. It was OK, but nothing memorable.

The place in Tustin off the 55 at 17th Street by Mimi's Cafe is absolute CRAP!

So I am on the hunt. Does anyone have a recomendation for a good place in Orange County?
