How do you properly open a bottle of Tuthilltown (Hudson) Whiskey?

The wax is more like resin. Once open, the wax is hard, jagged, and sharp. I’m finding it necessary to grind the edges down – to chip them down with a knife like granddad whittling, but shooting wax frags across the room with cartoon ricochet sound effects. I must be missing something. It can’t be this hard and complicated.

I feel guilty. Like a squirrel trying to get into the bird feeder.
