I made a Restaurant Week reservation at Aureole through Open Table. Over the weekend I received an e-mail erroneously telling me that I had called to cancel my reservation. I never made any such call. The e-mail said that if I had not intended to cancel I should contact Aureole directly.
I called Aureole and was told that Open Table had overbooked the restuarant during Restaurant Week and that not all reservations are being honored. I find this policy outrageous. What is the point of making a reservation if the restaurant is not going to honor it? Even worse was the cold reaction of the person who answered the phone at Aureole. Rather than being sympathetic and attempting to address the problem, she merely repeated several times that all she could do was see if there were any openings created by late cancellations.
I post this (1) to urge those who used Open Table to book reservations, particularly at Aureole, to confirm that those reservations are being honored; and (2) to warn Chowhounds about Aureole's disorganized reservation policy and the callous attitude one of its staff members took upon being alerted to the problem.
