I recently came back from a trip which included 2 days on Mt. Desert Is. and had mixed thoughts about Preble Grill. First, my fiance and I show up with no reservations on a Tuesday night. We walk in and tell them dinner for 2. They ask us if we have reservations and we said no (mind you, the restaurant had 2 occupied tables in the whole place). The host sighed at us and told us to hold on while he checked to see if there was an open table. I thought maybe there were a slew of reservations in the next hour by the way he acted. We were seated right in front of the door, which we were OK with since we had no reservations. It then took our server about 15 minutes to come over and ask us if we wanted any drinks. Finally, we get our bottle of wine and order our food. In the mean time, the host sighs at everyone coming in the door during our entire dinner(about 6 other parties) because none of them had reservations. We were able to observe this, due to our crappy table at the door.
We both had Eggplant Napolean which was good, nothing spectacular, but good. Unfortunatly it is the poor service and arrogant host that stands out.
