(This visit was part of my survey of Chicken Rice in the GVA. )
I mentioned in an earlier post that I was visiting my parents in Richmond this weekend. One my way home I stopped at Prata-Man for Chicken Rice. Prata-Man has been here for years despite that, I have only been there once prior to this visit. The restaurant is located in a nondescrit strip mall on the side of Garden City Road in Richmond.
The Chicken was done well - gelatinous, tender. The sauces, however, were a huge disappointment. The chili sauce was diluted bottled Thai Sweet Chili chicken sauce and the ginger/scallion sauce tasted a bit dull - like it was made a few days ago. To their credit, they did provide the "proper" sweet dark soya in bottles at your table. However, as i am finding, the sauce will make or break this dish. The soup was a very thin, very diluted and very gingery clear broth. Hardly any substance and not very "chickeny." I give this place a thumbs down for Chicken Rice.
My daughter ordered the green onion pancakes (which is supposed to be their version of Roti Prata - the Singaporean version of Indian Paratha. It is called Roti Cania in Malaysia). Theirs was a terrible rendition - it was cakey, gummy - without the usual thin, fluffy layering.
