I'm a recent transplant to Jackson Heights from the upper west side, and I'm absolutely delighted with the Asian and Latin American offerings here. But I do miss our former local neighborhood continental European/nouvelle American places--Acqua. Gennaro, Henry's etc. The few remaining Italian (or for that matter Spanish, rather than Latin American) restaurants in the neighborhood seem not only trapped in the Big Night era, but also surprisingly expensive for what they are. Sapori d'Ischia is the one place that is a bit of an exception, but the menu is a little on the heavier side. Anyway, would be curious to know if anyone can recommend anything else that offers more updated Italian or Spanish cuisine within a short subway or car service ride of Jackson Heights that can stand up to the quality Thai/Malaysian/Greek/Peruvian we take for granted now. I've never tried L'Incontro in Astoria or a place called Ponticello got a fleeting mention in Gourmet or something like that. So any reviews of either of those places, or any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
