My old post, my old self

Hello everyone

It is four years since I was last in New York.

This year I have a significant birthday so, despite your new national 'leadership', I am coming back for four nights. One night for every year spent away.

Below is a link to my last squid obsessed post from four years ago. It has brought back very happy memories of Taverna Kyclades in the Village, annisa and Hanjan.

So, looking back and looking forward ....

1. Are all of these places still worth a visit ? Have they blossomed or fallen back ? Still pushing or resting on laurels of yesteryear ? Friends who I sent to TK 18 months ago tell me it is constantly rammed - is this so and is it still worth the wait ? ?
2. Are the two iconic places that I have still never eaten at - Gramercy Tavern and Union Square Cafe still going strong - or is there a new kid on the block for a classic none pretentious New York dinner for my landmark birthday ?
3. Where new for fresh squid, cooked simply or for wonderful squiddy innovation ?
4. And finally what new trends should I be googling and visiting. Think Shake Shack when it first opened in the park and hadn't gone brand global crazy......or somewhere new in the crazy donutsphere...somewhere that will make me think' only in New York, and that's why I love it so........'

Staying in Williamsburg so anywhere 'over there' too is welcome.
