Some time ago I asked if anyone had heard of a Polish restaurant going in on the main street in Washington, NJ (Warren County). No one knew nuttin.
Well, I was in Washington last week around noon and was delighted to find Kaffe Kaprys well established and doing a thriving lunch business. It's been open for 8-9 months and is serving up a somewhat limited, but really delicious selection of Polish dishes. I had the kielbasa sandwich with sauerkraut and it was wonderful. Next time, however, I will go for the kielbasa and 'kraut alone with rye bread on the side. Makes much more sense.
When I was there, five of the six tables were occupied and the whole show was being run by Irena Kuciarski, the owner. She was the cook, the server and the cashier. And everything ran smoothly with minimal delays.
I know Washington is out of the way for most people but if you find yourself within 20-30 minutes of this place I recommend you make a detour. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
The restaurant is at 41 E. Washington Avenue (Route 57). They also do catering for those who are interested.
