Podhalanka-great soup, good pierogi

LO | Jan 20, 2004 05:31 PM

Stopped in at Podhalanka yesterday, craving comfort food. Had a seat at the counter, and was greeted by "How about we start with a nice bowl of soup" before I had even taken off my coat. It was like he read my mind. Naming off all the soups - chicken noodle, beef tripe, borscht, cabbage, barley and others i don't recall, I decided on the cabbage. It was phenomenal. The cabbage was cooked perfectly, not too mushy, there was a bit of celery, carrots, pork and juniper berries. It was zesty, tangy and pretty much perfect. this was followed by an order of meat pierogies, which had a nice dough, light, not gluey and a decent meat filling that was nicely seasoned and not dry. All this was washed down with a perrier-like polish mineral water.
They also just got a satellite dish with polish TV channels. They had a great Polish beer commercial done to the sounds of The Clash's should I stay or should i go.
i definitely would go back, especially to try the other soups.
