Places for great or different desserts?

Bob Dobalina | Nov 30, 2005 12:35 PM

Where are places in Boston that offer fantastic desserts? A scan of archived posts reveals little, so I hope this question is ripe for comment.

Either places that specialize in desserts or welcome patrons who come in just for coffee, dessert, after-dinner drinks, etc. Or perhaps some lounge-y places that have uncommonly good desserts?

I am also thinking of places that would be suitable after having sushi, when I'm not in the mood for green tea ice cream, but rather when I'm looking to linger over chocolate, coffee, conversation and perhaps Courvoisier!

There are some obvious players in this market:

- The North End duo of Mike's and Modern.
- Finale
- Gargoyle's (I've been told).
- Burdick's

How about something new or undiscovered? A true Chowhound (TM) hidden gem?

Such as:

In the recent Finale post, one reply suggested the bar at Sandrine in Harvard Square. Any experiences?

Another wrote, "Try the bar at Rialto, Oleana's fabulous baked alaska, the chocolate mousse at Chez Henri, etc."

These places might have great desserts, but I think I would feel odd going into Oleana at 10pm on a Friday looking just for dessert. Or perhaps I'm wrong?
