Where is the first place you would return to in New Orleans?

I will be visiting New Orleans with a team of 8 colleagues the last week of January (week before Mardi Gras). We are staying at Hotel Monteleone and will not have car of our own.

I like to find restaurants using the Calvin Trillin method (i.e. asking a local "if you were beamed to Antartica for 6 months, then found yourself back home, where is the first place you would eat - and not the fancy place you would take your parents for their anniversary?")

So, what say you, good folks of New Orleans? Where is the first, non-fancy, place you would head to with a group for a really great meal prepared by the chef on site.
