Best place (retail) for large quantities of pork?

Dax | Aug 19, 2002 01:42 PM

I often smoke 20-30 lbs of pork ribs and/or pork shoulders (mmm Boston Butt) once a month during the summer and throughout the college football season (where it increases to once every other weekend). I cook for myself and friends, not for commercial purposes.

Although I can often find spare ribs at Stop & Shop or Star, the price varies b/w $1.50-$3/lb or more. This can get quite expensive. Additionally, the selection of quality shoulder to make pulled pork is minimal at best.

Has anyone had luck going down to Haymarket area or any large local butchers for inexpensive quantities of pork?

I live in Watertown. I'd rather not have to join/drive out to Costco if I can help it.

Thanks in advance,
