pico -- uphill

I have been mainly a lurker for the past few months, but now feel the need to thrown in my two cents about a meal that i had at pico. I went once before right after the times' great review and was extremely disapointed and felt thoroughly ripped off. At that dinner I kshould admit that I was already really annoyed at the bad company, but I couldn't help but notice that my suckling pig was dry in the middleand the skin was so really chewy and had an awful flavor and that many of the other dishes were bland at best...

This visit (in a week where I ate at Capsuto, Veritas and Tabla), the food was perfect -- really perfect. The suckling pig was the best that I have ever eaten (by a long shot). The rest of the tasting menu was also excellent (with the possible exception of the bacalao cake which i substituted in -- it was only very good). The wine was interesting, very good and reasonable (and plentiful with the tasting menu). In fact, I came away with a new favorite white wine -- I'll post it when i can find the scrap of paper that i wrote the name on. Lastly, I really liked the staff -- welcoming, knowlegeable and good humored. In short, I wish that I had more time to go into greater detail; I came away satisfied and with that rare feeling of being very well taken care of (and very well fed). .
