After reading many posts here on the chowhound boards as well as numerous critic reviews I decided that on my bi-annual trip to NYC I would dine at Picholine. I was in town for the fancy Food show and as a restaurant owner and an experienced food person I have to say that I was quite letdown by the reputation of this great restaurant. My one observation I would like to pass on to other potential diners is that "cafe seating" should not be an option. We were seated mainstream of the solid flow of customers and I felt like I was truly in their way. I felt the service was second class because of where we were seated and we rarely saw our oh so very young waiter. It was quite obvious to us that the dining room customers were the real customers just by counting the attentive wait staff present in the room. Being in the restaurant business, one hates being critical of other restaurants because of all the hardships... but when you pay $200.00 plus dollars for dinner you expect the entire experience. I will say that the food was sound, and well concieved but was lost because of the dining conditions.
