there's a marvelous family-owned italian deli in oakland called genova, where (on increasingly rare occasions) the baker turns out the most amazing pastry ever. they're called "basil twists." made with light, flaky phyllo braided around fresh basil pesto, a light crunch then slow seep of olive oil - i love them! i miss them!
anything similar in nyc? i'm in the east village, but distance is no object for the right twist.
