Ben and I went to Pho Thien Long in the Grand Century Mall in SJ Sun 12/21/03. This was our second time there. It's very good and reasonable. The first time we ordered the rice porridge cha ca-it was filling, warm, lots of catfish and ginger.
This time we ordered #38, the bun cha ca, $15.95. Previous hounds mentioned it before and I've been wanting to try it. It's a huge plate of filleted catfish w/ spices, fresh dill and scallions and peanuts over a gas burner. It also comes w/ rice vermicelli, pickled carrots & cabbage, more greens and cucumber. Also a grey fish sauce which I didn't care for. Very delicious dish, it serves two.
We shared a bowl of combination rice porridge. Lots of shrimp, catfish, ginger. Lots of flavor. Recommended.
Then went to Nuoc Mia in the food court for a sugar cane drink. They have many flavors that you can add to your sugar cane drink. I liked the sugar cane w/ orange juice. $3 a cup. Recommended.
Drove about 20 minutes away to Hung Vuong Tofu, 1741-B Berryessa Rd, SJ. 408-254-1740. This is a small shop that sells the best dessert tofu (flower of the tofu dofu-fa) w/ ginger sauce $1.25 for small container. Also, they make the freshest soybean drink. When you buy it sometimes it's still warm. The red cap is the one with sugar added (my favorite).
