The anticipated To Pho Vietnamese restaurant is now open in the loop. They're doing a limited menu lunch and trying to get the kinks out. I had a long conversation with the owner who seems very enthusiastic and eager to please. He was overwhelmed by the responsive crowds last week. He made the mistake, I think, of giving away food gratis initially. Apparently, word spread and....
I had a fresh Vietnamese spring roll with tofu--2 large rolls that came to $7.05. That's a little steep in my book but the rolls and peanut sauce were excellent nonetheless (as was the spicy fish sauce). The older woman (the owner's mom?) urged me to come back and try the pho--which I will indeed.
This is good news for the pathetic loop lunch dining scene.
