If there is anything that smacks of Old Los Angeles, it must be Philippes and I am happy to report that it is at the top of its form. Lunch yesterday was a line up of workers, blue collar and otherwise plus families all waiting for their fill up.
Mme Zoe ordered the pork dip and I ordered the lamb dip - both delicious; not served any more with a side of dipping sauce but the meat is dipped before being put on the bun - excellent and not too soggy. Ordered sides of cole slaw and potato salad. Also shared a bowl of the Friday special, white clam chowder, very clammy, creamy and good to eat. Iced tea and one bite of a great French apple pie (not Mme Zoe's fave because of the crumbs) but I loved the whole pieces of crunchy apple, finished the meal.
Did take away for a baked apple and a side of pork trotters (Mme made her usual remarks about this not being diet food; I did not respond - those of us who are trotter fans and fresh trotter fans, will understand).
Total bill just over $20. Happiness, $1M.
