My wife grew up in New Orleans and we have fond memories in the past of sharing a pie at Pepperoni's and of enjoying a po-boy and some red beans at Teddy's Grill. Neither place is a big draw for people but were neighborhood diamonds in the rough that locals enjoyed. Both are in the Franklin / Elysian Fields / Filmore / Robert E. Lee area. We drove by the places two weekends ago and saw that Pepperoni's appears to be gutted and that Teddy's seems DOA. Does anyone have news about either place with regard to reopening?
I worry about all of the Mom & Pop places in the city. The big names will reopen but so much of the great cuisine of New Orleans was in all of those hole-in-the-wall restaurants. On our first date, my wife and I ate at a tiny Cuban restaurant close to Tulane. I don't have the heart to check and see if it's still open or not.
