Pantheon on Danforth - my little review

50firstdatesguy | Dec 10, 2007 06:06 AM

I've read some reviews on ChowHound about this Greek restaurant, which is in the Greek village area of Danforth and Chester. Based on those reviews I took someone there last night for a date situation and I was not let down!

We were greeted and seated quickly, although keep in mind it was a chilly Sunday eve. I've heard reservations are recommended. Anyway the waiter was kind and attentive. I had the house red, which is a Greek Merlot, and it was pretty good. She had an Amaretto Sour, no complaints there.

Salads came with the meal so we didn't feel like appetizers. Re: salads, Greek salads have a habit of sometmies being drenched and soggy, and the Feta overpowering, but these salads in my opinion were lighter and not as oily as most. They were quite good IMHO.

I had the Mousaka, and she had the chicken. I've never had Mousaka before but it was delicious, it's like a Greek version of Shepherd's Pie. Rice was fluffy, veggies not too soggy or anything. Her dish looked good also and she enjoyed it.

Waiter was prompt to ask us if everything was okay - I find sometimes the waiters in Toronto drop the ball on this, they don't come and ask about the meal until you're pretty much finished, but this guy was on the ball and asked us just a few minutes after we'd begun so I was quite impressed with that.

We finished, had some more drinks, and we were getting ready to call it a night when the waiter brought us a piece of cake compliments of the house. That really impressed us so we ate up and tipped well. We were thanked warmly on the way out.

Overall I really couldn't have asked for much more aside from a juggling and unicycle act, I give the service (based on my experience) a solid 10/10. The food was a solid 9/10, price considered. Atmosphere is simple but cozy, 8.5/10.

I spent $90 on entrees, around 5-6 drinks and a decent tip for the waiter. I'd say most could drink normally and dine well for $70 or less.

I'd definitely go back!
