I recently went to to the original Palm on 3rd avenue and was greatly disappointed. The waiter was pushing the usual bottled water right off the bat. He was also pushing some kind of club you could join to get future discounts at the Palm, which I found really tacky. None of that would have really bothered me if the steak was great, which it wasn't. I had the ribeye and while it wasn't terrible, it was just ok, with not much flavor and really kind of thin. It looked like a steak you would buy in your local supermarket. My friend's shrimp cocktail was ordinary and my lump meat crab cocktail plentiful but not that great. We ordered hash browns (quite good), creamed spinach (just ok) and fried onions (terrible). I expected onion rings and asked our lousy waiter if they were just that. He said they were and what we got was tiny pieces of fried breaded onions, which could very well be right out the can. What a disgrace. I wish I had a blooming onion from Outback. My friend had filet mignon, which was big, but quite ordinary. To top things off we ordered 2 espressos and my friend ordered ONE sambuca. Dumbo the waiter brought over TWO and acted offended that I did not accept a drink I did not order. What a jerk. He also practically forced another beer on me earlier that I reget I accepted. That was my fault. They did give us a free dessert each for being first time customers (and probably last time customers!) The cheesecake and chocolate cake were decent but ordinary. I kept wishing I had ordered a lobster, because they looked great and everyone else was getting one. Any suggestions about venturing back for one of them or maybe trying Palm 2 or Palm westside??? I want to try Ben Benson's. Any thoughts. I have been to a few other steakhouse's and I rank the top five like this....
