Just discovered Shanghai Dumpling House in Edison (1581Rt 27). A tiny little place in a strip mall.
I love Xiao Long Bao, and drive everywhere for them. Read about this place and got here last night. There was about a half hour wait at 6:30 and after tasting the food, I can understand why.
The pork Xiao Long Bao and the pork and crab XLB were obviously homemade, and absolutely delicious. The skins were light and airy, and the soup was delicious. Fillings were generous and excellent. They also have sheng jian bao, (pan fried soup dumplings), which were good, but didn't have any soup.
Their cold beef with special sauce was great. Tender beef with a sweet BBQ sauce. Finally we ended with Shanghai style rice cakes- rice cakes with spinach. Also obviously homemade rice cakes were perfectly cooked and super tasty.
The menu here is kind of limited, but if you're looking for an authentic Shanghai experience, with just wonderful food, get here! Personally, I think their XLB are some of the best in the NY area- bar none!! I live near Shanghai Bun in Matawan, but the XLB here are actually more consistent and better! Again IMHO!!!
