A couple of days ago I asked for recommendations for restaurants close to the Hotel Commonwealth. I got some great responses and the restaurants all looked interesting. We decided to go to Audubon because we were wearing jeans and didn't feel like getting dressed up. Also, we didn't feel like being tied to one place so we thought we'd stop for an appetizer and then move on.
First of all, we never would've found Aububon in a million years. It was so nice to go to a place that felt "local"!
We had a great time. We sat at the bar and had a Magic Hat beer (very good). To start, we ordered the grilled Tuscan bread with white bean paste and the Asian potsticker box. Both were great (though I'd add a tiny bit more garlic or something to the white bean paste -- the bread was delightfully chewy though). The potstickers were good and they were artfully presented. After a glass of wine, we decided to stay put and ordered two more appetizers -- the grilled shrimp with citrus dipping sauce (pretty good but also standard fare) and the sweet and spicy chicken wings. They were delicious.
All of the salads, burgers and sandwiches that we saw being delivered to tables looked fabulous.
And I have I mentioned the service? It was GREAT. Not in your face but very efficient and kind. The two guys who served us were top notch. One of them steered us to a bar in Brookline we never would've found either -- the Washington Square Tavern -- where we had a very pleasant time nursing a beer.
So, thanks so much, fellow hounds. We had a wonderful time in your beautiful city. And the bill didn't kill us either!
