Orlando Lunch Report - Johnson Family Diner, Emeril's

Steve | Sep 18, 2009 02:52 PM

Two Lunches:

Johnson Family Diner serves nice food. Fried catfish was very well prepared, very moist, without a hint of oil. Vegetables are all good. Still, nothing out of the ordinary.

Emeril's on City Walk: Used free valet parking, which is nice. Seafood and Andouille Gumbo, great depth of flavor, more like eating a bowl of gravy than soup. A bit salty, but a minor quibble. Shrimp did not fare well, though; had a strange play-dough texture. The andouille was a no-show. I'm glad I ordered this instead of, and not in addition to, a main course. It is very filling. Fresh hot rolls served with, very good.

Dessert at Emeril's was the almond croissant bread pudding. Unfortunately some genius decided that this would look better if served molded. Bread pudding forced into a mold? Awful. Chocolate 'gelato' seved with it is good, but is ice cream, not gelato.

I'll call it a tie.
