The Original Fish Company--A Review

Funwithfood | Jun 14, 200410:39 AM

I had heard about this place for some time and finally made it out there last night. To sum it up, it we concluded it was "the most expensive bad meal we have ever had." ($125.00)

Red Apple Martinis: Too sweet, and not very cold

New England Clam Chowder:
Had a unusual sweet, flour-y--pasty taste with very little clams and clam flavor. (Probably the worst clam chowder I have ever had.)

Manhattan Clam Chowder:
Very tasty, lots of tender clams and a nice "clammy" flavor.

Santa Maria Cambria Chardonnay:

Mesquite Broiled Copper River King Salmon:
The mesquite flavor was absolutely wonderful. The fish was stradled on top of an "ice cream scoop" of dry, steamed white rice, an unattractive presentation.

Scallops & Colossal Shrimp:
The shrimp tasted off--kind of like wood! (mentioned this to the waitress when she asked how everything was, she giggled.). The scallops had no flavor. A pretty inedible dish, very disappointing.

The decor was nice, but the ambience was horrible. The experience reminded us of eating at a Disneyland restaurant, where diners wear T-shirts and flip-flops and are very loud.

The patio looked serene and lovely. We found out they only allow 4 tables to smoke there. I would highly recommend sitting on the patio.

Afterwards, we drove down to Roy's in Newport where we had a wonderful dessert in lovely environs--the evening was redeemed!
