When we were in NYC earlier this year, we had the omakase menus at Nobu and Jewel Bako. During the months prior, when I was visiting the NYC boards for food recommendations, I noticed that it's fairly common for the high-end sushi places to really do the omakase thing, while I don't remember any discussions here in Bay Area (except for one or two kaiseki discussions) about it. I realize you can do it informally at any decent sushi place by throwing it open to the chef, but are there any sushi restaurants you can recommend that really have the equivalent of a Japanese tasting menu?
