Olive Garden has gone downhill fast (modernflavormagazine.com)

My recent trip to Olive Garden in Greensboro, NC, with my family was horrible at best. Of course, when we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly hostess and sat immediately. From there, the meal went to hell in a hand basket. We sat at our table for fifteen minutes before anyone walked over to our table and asked what we wanted to drink. But in order to get anyone over to our table to take our drink order, I had to stop a random server and ask them to get us drinks.

The manager walked over and offered us fried lasagna as an appetizer because he had heard that we waited for a long time on our server. His coming over and apologizing made me feel a little better about our visit, until I realized that he didn’t bring us any appetizer plates or silverware to eat with. So now we were sitting at the table with no drinks and an appetizer with nothing to eat it with.

We were now twenty-four minutes into sitting at the table, and finally, our server walked over and took our drink order. I could tell she was overwhelmed, but I really couldn’t see how because the place had a ton of servers, and the restaurant was half full. Nonetheless, we were glad that we had made the list of tables to get served within the hour.

Our server promptly brought out our bowl of salad and bread sticks. Again, no plates. We had to ask for plates, and still, no drinks. I finally stopped her and asked for drinks. She quickly came back with tea that had a head on it (our beer drinkers know what I’m talking about). Our food arrived, and at that point, we didn’t want to eat anything. The server asked if there was anything she could do to make our experience better, but it was a lost cause.

The food and service at Olive Garden has gone down the toilet. I remember the days of going to Olive Garden, and the food was fantastic, and the service was great. Is it authentic Italian food? No, it’s not, and I don’t think most people are expecting authentic Italian, but good service is expected every single time.

I’ve lost all respect for chain restaurants. The quality of food is subpar, and the service is horrible. Olive Garden, Cheesecake Factory, and all in-between are simply awful. They are a slap in the face of all culinary establishments. I would rather try the small mom and pop style restaurant. The huge food chains need to really revamp their menus, and focus on customer service. The Olive Garden is simply horrible!
