Best (least offensive?) Commodity Cooking Oil?

zackly | Oct 4, 201609:45 AM     13

Supermarkets around here occasionally run sales on one gallon containers of commodity cooking oil for 4-5 dollars, a great price. You usually can choose between Soybean. Corn or Canola. I don’t like canola because I, like many, find it fishy smelling when heated. I don’t particularly like the other two either. I used to like corn oil for deep frying but that’s nasty now too. Have they changed the way they process these oils over the years. Do brands matter? Is Wesson or Mazzola better than the store brands? Chinese restaurants mostly use soybean now and their fried food tastes great. I mostly use these oils for pan & deep frying and I make a blend that I keep next to stove in a speed bottle which is roughly 75% of one these oils and 25% EVO. This I use for sautéing. Is there a good tasting brand of commodity corn or soybean oil available or do I need to bite the bullet and use a more expensive oil like peanut or grapeseed? Thanks!
