Odre - Spanish ewe's milk cheese

Yesterday's taste of mild-mannered Brebis d'Argental ( ) whet my tastebuds for something sheep milk-based but with more character. I spotted a half-round of Odre, a bloomy rind sheep's milk cheese from Spain. No one on duty to assist me in the cheese department, I googled to find Janet Fletcher's review and this sounded good to me.

Whereas Brebis d'Argental seemed more akin to the mild sweetness of Brie with some extra grassiness, Odre is indeed closer to Camembert in its assertiveness and depth. The texture of the paste was more of an elastic goo rather than the silken creaminess of Brebis d'A. The rind on my example was faintly ammoniated, so I could not eat it. Not much yield on this piece, and at $32/pound pretty precious. But I did like it and might enjoy a fresher example even more. I would consider buying it again.
