Oahu - gourmet groceries

nowhere | Aug 27, 2004 06:40 AM

I just moved to Honolulu from Los Angeles and though I am really liking it here, I *desperately* miss Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, and Trader Joe's in Los Angeles, and Draeger's in the Bay Area. I've been to the Beretania Foodland, will try Fujioka's, and even made a futile effort to find Strawberry Connection (now closed), based on a Honolulu Star-Bulletin article I found in my Google for "Honolulu gourmet groceries." For organic foods, I've been to Kokua Market and Huckleberry Farm (?). Other groceries I've tried are Malama, Foodland Ala Moana, Star Market Kahala, Daiei, and of course, Costco.

I've already written Whole Foods promising to shop there everyday should they open a store here, but in the meantime, are there any other places anyone can recommend? I live near Waikiki but am willing to drive anywhere on this island. In particular, I am looking for a great deli/prepared foods section (not counting spam musubi and assorted poke, as much as I like it), health (but not too healthy; more Whole Foods than local co-op) foods, and Bubbie's dill pickles (Kokua carries only the Bread and Butter pickles). Thanks in advance..
