I am a visitor from the Boston Chowhound board, and come to you with a request I see often on the Boston board - NYC restaurant suggestions? Yes, I know a very vague question and I have done my share of searches through nyc threads, but many are outdated, so I'm hoping maybe a few will jump to my rescue and point me to a couple of your favorite, must-not-miss spots.
Yes, I am visiting NYC this weekend - have a concert Friday night and then the rest of the weekend is pretty open. Our one nice (and hopefully just as amazing meal as it was last time) meal is Saturday night, at the Union Square Cafe.
We are staying midtown, west 57th St, between 6th and 7th avenue, so places in this vicinity would be great, though I am open to going wherever I need to for some good chow.
Some meals I'm hoping to get suggestions on:
Fri dinner, Saturday breakfast, Sat lunch, Sun brunch/breakfast.
Fri dinner would have to be somewhat early, as the show probably starts 8ish. So, probably something casual; maybe pub like or a cool bar/restaurant with good apps and nice beer selection...ethnic suggestions are welcome though probably not too ethnic as my companion isn't too adventurous - probably Mexican/ or funky/fusion is the limit...so Friday looking for a hip spot with good food and great atmosphere...where we won't wait too long for a good meal. Have always wanted to try Pearl Oyster Bar but that'll probably be a nightmare, wait-wise...
Sat b'fast I'm thinking maybe the village...though we're staying at the Parker Meridien and Norma's is in there - which is supposed to be excellent.....should we check that out either Sat or Sun?
Also, how 'bout a good ny deli, for lunch either sat or sun? Yes, I've been to 2nd street deli (though not since it's been rebuilt), Katz's, and some of the others..any other authentic spots that come to mind?
Ok, guess that's good for now. Eagerly awaiting your responses - I know people post all the time saying "good nyc restaurants?" and you can't post back to everyone over and over...but from one fellow chowhound to another....'pleeeeease?' : )
