Thank you all so much! We would have completely missed out on the delights of the Ferry Building had you all not told me about it! We loved the cheese at Cowgirl and the breads at Acme, especially the green onion slab! Mmm!! and the raisin rye bread. just wish i'd tried the pumpkin bread too. Recchiuti chocolates were amazing--they had about $100 worth of samples out! the espresso choc truffle is fantastic. we also loved, loved! the coffee at Frog Hollow. So great when they brew it one at a time! Like Cowboy Dirt up at Dartmouth College. We weren't wild about their pastries, though, but that's more b/c we like a pate brisee or sucree not puffed pastry... a personal choice thing. no big. the place across, Bouchee Larder or whatever the name actually is, had a terrific sort of stollen-like pastry, can't remember the real name, so delish!! all the food was so gorgeous at every place! wow. we were in Chow Heaven. A bit embarrassing to admit: we spent 1.5hrs there! and ended up eating several dozen oysters at the Tomales Bay oyster bar. Yum!
We went to Chez Panisse the first night--great food, definitely simple preparations that showcase the ingredients. not quite what I'd expected but very tasty. We ended up randomly eating at Cafe Florio in Pacific Heights the next night. super nice bartender, mixes a great martini! and the food, while simple, was SO satisfying. I just had the papardelle bolognese but MMM!! good! though the saltiness did keep me up at night. my folks had the short ribs which were also fab.
