Numi Tea Garden

I recently met colleagues here for a light lunch and tea. It is an oasis in the Fruitvale/San Antonio neighborhood of Oakland. It seems as if the tea garden is located within Numi's offices. There are table, chairs and couches, and a stage for live music. It looks very spa-ish, with fountains and greenery.

The tea service was the highlight. There are dozens of teas to choose from. They bring it to you on a wooden platter, with a little buddha, a tiny cup, loose tea, a pot for steeping, a pot for pouring, and a timer. They pour the tea and water in tableside, and also pour hot water in the cup and wooden platter to keep everything warm. They tell you how long to steep your tea, using the timer), then you pour it into your small glass teapot. Hot water is refreshed whenever you'd like.

The food was good, but a very light lunch. I ordered the labne, with olive oil, zaatar, olives and pita. It tasted fresh and delicious, just like being in the Mediteranean. A colleague ordered pizza, which looked good, but was one tiny slice. Another ordered quiche with salad, which was more substantial. We also got some tea infused cookies, which were light and buttery.

Next time I'd like to go for tea and shared snacks, I think that would work better than lunch. I will definitely return to this quiet and beautiful spot!
