I was up in Munster at 10:30, and Nick's Gyros was the only non-franchise place still open. I got the footlong polish, which was a disaster. The relish was dry (??) and the bun was soggy from some liquid, presumably not from the relish. Worst of all, the sausage was ancient. I'm talking about cracked, wrinkled skin that looks like the thing sat out six hours. I was amazed at how badly they could screw up something so simple. I didn't complain though, because I already felt like I was in the wrong part of town.
BTW, some people have talked about Miner Dunn, a couple of northern lake county greasepits. I guess they are still around, and I saw one on 41 in Highland about a mile south of 80-94, but it was closed when I drove past (Sunday night). My girlfriend, from Munster, said they still have great food.
