Nice early Sunday dinner in Palo Alto, plus transportation help

Glencora | May 4, 201510:01 AM     40

This is really a two part question. I need help coming up with a nice place in Palo Alto for a graduation dinner for 7 or 8 people (possibly 9) on Sunday June 14th on the early side, 5PM, though we could do earlier. Possibly later, though that might make some people grumpy.

Places we’ve tried that were okay, but I wouldn’t do again include Mayfield, Palo Alto Sol, Rangoon Ruby’s, NOLA (MIL hated it), Reposado and MacArthur Park. I like the French place on California, but have only been as a couple. Almost any kind of food will work, though my MIL is fairly conservative and my son doesn’t think middle eastern is special enough. And of course it has to be open. I’ve been wanting to try Pizzeria Defina, but maybe it’s not nice enough. Also, quiet enough to talk is pretty important.

The other half of my question isn’t food-related but I hope the moderators will be okay with it -- considering all the tourist questions about driving, etc. I need to hire a town car/limo to get 5 of us from Berkeley around 8AM to the Stanford stadium by 9:30. (Doors open at 8AM -- why is it so early???) I’ve never done this before. For various reasons, we can’t drive ourselves and I’m sick that we’ll miss it and it will be my fault. My husband works until 8AM, though he’s going to try to be done sooner.

After the various events, we will then Uber/Lyft into Palo Alto for dinner and then back to Stanford afterward. We’d want to also have a limo/town car lined up to take us back to Berkeley. I’ve been reading reviews on Yelp etc and having a really hard time finding one that is definitely reliable, especially about showing up on time in the morning. Less-expensive is good too, but reliable tops that.

Please Chowhound community, help! Thanks.
