Recently spent a month - ten days! - in Charlotte, and wantto say many thanks to all who chimed in with fried chicken and other suggestions.
At at Sonoma (nice!) and LaVecchia's (good, but way overpriced for good), Mert's (oh, ok. Wouldn't shout about it, but only because I've trekked the South - and even Phila., where every other person GREW UP in SC, honeh. Way timid on too many things.) Price's was just dandy, thank you - would go back in a heartbeat. Blue has a good bar, not great, Cosmo is also pretty good - where the heck in town is the perfect martini!) ARPA - way cool. A little uneven on the food, but mostly on target if not inspired. Good wine list. Why doesn't any bar that doesn't have live music play a decent, appropriate to time/place/ambiance selection in the whole of that miserably corporate downtown/Uptown??? And is there no great live music (please don't say Blue) in Uptown?
On the more positive side - Pewter Rose is fun, and I suspect most of the places in that area are, too. Pretty darn good biscuits and gravy, considering we're now all about not so much on the fat! Also - the Chicken Box is great. What terrific food and great people.
Will be back for two weeks in October. Can't wait to do more barbecue!
Thanks again, all y'all.
