While on a search for a decent Vietnamese sandwich (banh mi) in Des Moines I stumbled into an excellent treat that is known in these parts by the Laotian name which I can best render in latin letters as: 'muc pa'. It is found in some local Asian markets, wrapped in banana leaves. Take it home and heat it... Within is a wonderous mixture of fish, bamboo, coconut juice, chili pepper, dill, ginger, all suspended in some sort of egg based custardy medium. A bite into this wonderful treat rewards one with a memorable, rare and distinctive sensation of the various flavors.
If there are other names by which this treat is known, i.e. Vietnamese, Cambodian, please advise as I would love to sample more variations of this at any South East Asian restaurants that may include it on a menu.
