So the other night I was faced with a challenge I had feared for a long time:
"Hey Dave. Let's meet up for dinner. Anything good up in Rogers?"
The crew of us (4 adults, 5 kids) met up at Guadalajara just off I-94 at 202. Since the end result of my story isn't going to tempt anyone to get in the car and drive up there, I'll basically say it is a large, clean restaurant roughly in the mold of a Don Pablo's visually and the food is somewhere in between La Cucaracha (St. Paul) and El Loro (everywhere). I tend not to post about ho-hum places but there really are very few options for eating up near there which makes this worthwhile (I hope).
The chips and salsa are likely made in-house and were very fresh. My compadre-in-law had a burrito which was massive and probably was what I should have had. My camarones al diablo (or whatever) was OK -- a little light on the shrimp (eight of them, smallish) and flavorful, though not as spicy as advertised. The other shrimp dish (sister-in-law had) was the garlic/mushroom (I can't remember the name) and had a fairly strong flavor of concentrated orange juice.
It ain't the Mercado Central, but considering your alternatives around there, it's certainly in the "perfectly fine" category. Especially if you like massive burritos and don't want to eat at McDonald's, the Black Bear or the TA truck stop cafe. I'd go back if I had to eat around there again.
