My wife and I finally got around to going to Mojo, a sorta Latin place on 5th St. near 2nd Ave in the East Village. Had a great meal. I had a tasty, flavorful tilapia, nicely seasoned and seared. My wife had the fish taco, chopped up and packed into a crunchy tortilla shell plus the macaroni and cheese.
I don't ordinarily like mac 'n cheese. Never liked it as a kid. Mojo's version is like heroin, totally addictive. I crave it. Nice, strong cheese, something sharp. And she had the version with chorizo...mmmmmm. I only had a taste since cheese and chorizo are way off my menu, but oy, was it great.
It was a slow Monday night, so we had a long chat with one of the owners, CArlos, a Colombian guy. We had a long discussion about Venezuelan vs. Colombian arepas. It was one of those kinda nights. These guys also own Suba on the lower east side, which I also really like.
Haven't tried them for brunch, but will try soon, particularly since they take reservations.
