I just had to share my feelings about a great little place in Park Slope. It's called Moda Cafe, and it's on 5th Ave, between 1st and Second Streets. Over the last year, Moda has definitely become my favorite local stop-in here. It's the kind of coffee bar you could easily find in Barcelona. Sophisticated, but friendly, and not at all aloof. They serve genuine euro style espresso and cortado, plus all the other favored coffee drinks. Pretty good beer and wine too. And there's a great little menu of tapas plates. From sweet garlicy chorizo, to melting plump white anchovies, an incredible Spanish cheese (mahon), roasted peppers, purple olives, and muh more. Nothing fancy really - just a great selection of tasty bits to brighten your day. Patrons are young artsy types, neighborhood freelancers, local business folk and workers - a lovely mix, age and culture wise. Rather open and inclusive. Moda has been around for a little over 3 years, making it one of the pioneers of the formerly daunting 5th avenue. This is the kind of place that makes neighborhoods great - until the rents go too high. So let's all get out and pay them a visit, before they get replaced by another soul-less Starbucks or kitschy nail salon. Moda Cafe might become your favorite place too.
