first time since it was renovated. fantastic. maybe a bit pricey and not enough seating are my only complaints.
i had the shio (salt) ramen at SANTOKA, the most popular stand ($6.99). very tasty broth. super noodles, best i've had. fresh made i believe. skimpy on the veggies and pork -- only one meager slice! quite satisfying tho. they were out of the summer special cold ramen at around 2:00pm, so that is popular too -- go early for it.
later i had a tonkatsu/pork cutlet um, err... sushi roll sandwich? it was from over by the sushi. not bad for $1.50, filling (mostly due to too much rice), but nothing memorable.
otoh, i grabbed a mochi three-pack for dessert and the ride home and it was great. i got it off the fresh mochi rack in the very back se corner of the grocery opposite the fried food counter. if you dk these are made of glutenous rice filled with red bean paste. gooey and sweet -- but not too sweet. i esp liked the mint green tea version.
if you have not visited MITSUWA, do so asap. they have everything japanese you could imagine and bring you appetite for the food stands.
