Mitchell's ice cream at Cafe Pirawan in Oakland

Lillian Hsu | Aug 30, 200509:50 PM

I couldn't find any previous posts on this little cafe. Has anyone tried the food at Cafe Pirawan on Grand Ave. in Oakland? (It's two doors down from Hunan Village.) I happened to park in front of it today and noticed a sign announcing that they serve Mitchell's ice cream.

They had ~12 flavors, including Ube and Macapuno. I got two small scoops of sorbet, passion fruit and red raspberry ($1.75 each). The passion fruit was good but the red raspberry had a weird texture. I noticed a bit of freezer burn in both scoops, but at least if I have a craving for Mitchell's, I can find it in my neighborhood.

Cafe Pirawan also serves burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads, milkshakes, and Asian food...although I don't see any Asian food on their take-out menu other than the Thai salad and "Thai chicken sticks."
