Mighty Midget bbq report

Steve | Feb 28, 2005 10:17 AM

After reading about Mighty Midget of Leesburg on this board, especially about how they run out bbq - Friday night and Saturdays - I thought I'd give it a try.

First, I was under the false impression that MM operated only on Fridays and Saturdays or that the bbq was available only on these days.

True, they make ribs only on these days, but the bbq pork shoulder is available every day along with a small variety of non-bbq items. Carry-out or a few outdoor tables.

Also, when I told the guy that I was coming from Washington, he said he'd reserve a rack of ribs for me. Definitely not as busy in Winter as in Summer.

The pork shoulder... wow. It really is sublime. Especially after a run of dissapointing sandwiches recently, I was heartened to find a perfect version. I could eat this every day.

The ribs were picture perfect and tender, but maybe not as flavorful as I'd normally like. Served very wet. The final basting is heavy handed, with the sauce lightly cooked on.

I don't mean to quibble too much with clearly serious bbq; I'd get these again. But if you find yourself in Leesburg and they've run out of ribs, or it's not a Friday/Saturday, then don't be discouraged. The chopped pork rules.
