My mother's birthday is coming up, and I've offered to make dinner for her, my dad, and my sister. I would like to make somethnig very nice, and suitable for a special occasion - not the same roast chicken, meatloaf, etc. that she cooks herself all the time. But I'm having a problem coming up with something that would be differenct without being TOO different. Mom won't eat anything spicy. That's okay. But my sister is a real problem. She won't eat nuts, salad, pork, lamb, any fish, soup, any vegetable except corn, potatoes and maybe carrots, ricotta cheese, blue cheese, goat cheese - you get the picture. I was considering the Boeuf a la mode recipe fom Mastering the Art of French Cooking, because it's basically really, really yummy pot roast, but even if I do that, I'm at loss for a starter, dessert, and so on. Any ideas?
