I was going to post this in the thread below about Memphis, but it sounded like bellita was looking for typical Southern food recommendations. But when thinking of great Chowhoundish places in Memphis, this place leapt to mind and I thought I'd post it for general consumption (pun intended).
Anyway, there is a great hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese place on Summer Ave. called Lotus. (I moved from Memphis about a year and half ago so I can't guarantee that it's still there, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't.) Much of the menu is typical Chinese, but there is a Vietnamese section which is where the good stuff is. The Lemongrass Chicken is awesome. I haven't been able to find it's equal since I moved here to Austin. I also recall a dish called Vietnamese Vermicelli that is excellent. I would usually order the Lemongrass Chicken (because I couldn't stand to be there and not order it) and let them suggest something else for my group. I never had a bad dish there. The family (or families) that run the place were always super friendly too.
I highly recommend this restaurant to Chowhounds. It was definitely in my Top 5 in Memphis before I moved.
I'd be interested in hearing other Memphis hounds' thoughts on this place. Is it still there? Is it still as good as I remember? Do you even like it?
