Not sure why we've not been to McKinney & Doyle in Pawling for donkey's years. But went this week and had a really nice meal, w/ good service.
The little loaf of warm bread is a cozy way to begin (the sort of white bread that is maybe better in theory than practice, but it is a cheerful beginning nonetheless). Salad accompanying entrees quite nicely composed and well dressed. My husband had the creamy fish soup (it has a guy's name, which I've, of course, forgotten)--delicious, rich.
I ordered crispy halibut tacos. My husband, calve's liver. Both were well prepared, nicely seasoned--and enormous portions. We traded entrees mid-way. Partly given quantity and partly something about the preparation that was good but not dimensional or complex or something, I think I might have gotten a bit tired of either entree, were I to have only had that. My husband didn't feel that way, was surprised when I gave the meal, which I quite enjoyed, but he really enjoyed, a B+. He called me a hard grader.
