Manny's Grill - Glen Oaks East Queens - Great Latin / Spanish

Wow!

My wife is Puerto Rican and we have been looking for years for anything Latin flavored - Cuban / Dominican / Puerto Rican in North Eastern Queens / Western Nassau, no luck!

We would always end up going down Northern Blvd / Roosevelt Ave, hunting for parking - sometimes more than 15 minutes (!) to go some of the decent places there.... no more!

Our new favorite is Manny's Grill, located on Union Turnpike and 254th Street! Unfortunately there is no web site, but I will describe our delicious meal at this restaurant.

We started off with Mariquitas -- small plantain chips, served warm. The table had two bowls of mojo, one mild and one spicy. Both delicious for the plantain chips. We also shared Maduros Rellenos -- what my wife called a "canoe" - soft ripe plaintain stuffed with meat. We enjoyed the maduro relleno so much we ordered a second one with the meal!

Our main courses were both meat. My wife loved the Ropa Vieja, which our server recommended as one of their popular dishes. It was amazing. My wife loved it, and she is a tough person to please with Latin food. I went with the Churasco, which was delicious by itself, and even better with a great chimichurri sauce. Both came with sides, rice and beans, that were perfectly cooked and tasty.

We topped it off with a delicious flan, just the right amount of caramel and sweetness!

We liked it so much, we are inviting our friends.... and heading back this weekend!

Some other appetizers on the menu include Empanadaas, Bacalaitos, Chicaron de Pollo, and Chorizo

Salads on the menu include Bacalao (!) salad, Taco, Aguacate (avacado) and grilled chicken.

Sandwiches on the menu include Cuban, Empanizado (breaded steak) and more!

Main Courses include two sides, have various meat-based dishes, chuletas de cerdo, pernil, BBQ ribs, and stewed Oxtails, of which most are under $10!

Side dishes include rice and beans, rice & pigeon peas, pasteles, maduros, tostones, and yuca frita!

We really dug the place, since we would always have to travel to Manhattan to get good Puerto Rican food, and although this is not a "Puerto Rican" restaurant, the food is great and not to be missed!

No, I dont work for the place, but after googling the internet and Chowhound and not finding any postings on it, nor any reviews in the local papers (which are always positive - see the local Queens ***** papers) this place deserves a visit!

After our first time eating there, my wife called her friends on the drive home from the place, inviting them out this weekend to go back to Manny's Grill!
