Malo in Silverlake--follow up review

Cat'sChow | Jun 26, 2004 12:48 PM

Ok so I tried out Malo despite warning over service and spotty good food/bad food. My experience was excellent (aside from the B List celebrity crowd talking super loud about various A list celebrity friends...talking so loud to make sure you could hear them. Oh brother). I chose the patio with heat lamps as inside seemed cold and boring.

Started with an excellent Mojito, my cousin had a really great margarita. I had chicken yucatacen (?) which was really tasty and moist. He had chicken posole which was too bland for my taste but then again my mom makes the best so it was a tough comparison. By far, the guacamole blew us away. SEveral salsa choices and that was fun.

Now to the service. Many here warned about the lack thereof. My experience was vastly different. Not only was our waiter attentive, he was very friendly and even engaged in a little funny chitchat. Busboy was never slow on refilling water (with cucumber-yumm) nor was our waiter slow on replenishing cocktails. Being on the patio may be the trick to better service as the layout allowed walking by the tables constantly (??) I'll definately be going back.
